Municipalities and regions play an important role in the implementation of sustainable development goals through coordinated spatial planning and the implementation of their own sustainable development strategies in line with national goals. By supporting investment in projects that promote sustainability, such as renewable energy, energy-efficient buildings, sustainable transport or education, municipalities contribute to balanced territorial development and to the social cohesion of local communities. The use of new technologies and innovations is a tool for improving quality of life, increasing access to public services and reducing regional disparities, taking into account specific local and regional needs and challenges. Municipalities play a key role in combating and adapting to climate change. Synergies between different forms of partnerships between municipalities, regions and other actors, including the private sector and NGOs, contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
